[INGRAM SPARK] Espresso sales

Post by stacy734 » Mon Jun 25, 2018 5:08 am

Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of moving my books from Createspace to IngramSpark. It has been a smooth process, although it would have been smoother if I had used my own ISBNs from the beginning instead of CS's free ones.

One surprising thing has come of this: I'm getting a lot of Espresso sales. The Espresso Book Machine is a book printing and binding device on-site at bookstores, universities, and libraries. I've never seen one but I've seen the video and it's neat looking. I always assumed it was a novelty and would never generate a lot of sales. I was wrong. My sales mostly come from Germany and are for technical books.

Has anyone else noticed this? Did Createspace work with Espresso under EDC?

Crazy stuff!

Very interesting. I haven't yet had a single Espresso sale. How do they appear on your IS reports?

(By the way, I added the required tag in brackets to your post. Please remember to use tags in the future.)

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for adding the tags, I'll remember to add them in the future.

The Espresso sales are part of Global Connect. The header on the report is: "GLOBAL CONNECT/ESPRESSO SALES REPORT"

About 15% of my CS sales came from EDC, but I was never really sure where they came from exactly other than the currency. I'm not sure if any of them came from Espresso. If CS doesn't do business with Espresso, they really should.

I received a similar report from IS showing that 2 of my books were printed by the Espresso machine in China. I fear that in China it was so that somebody can steal it and start selling it for a steeply discounted price, and possibly with their own name on it!

I just did a search on EBM locations and there is one here in Fairbanks, Alaska. I wonder if I went there if I could pay to get one of my books printed to see what the quality is when it is printed on an EBM. Anybody ever seen the results of a print from an EBM? I have noticed that all of my hardcover IS books say "Yes" under Espresso.

Does anybody know if our CS titles can be printed on one?

I'm not sure, I'm guessing they don't but I've never really been clear on the EDC retailers.

There isn't a EBM near where I live, but if you do have one printed, can you report back here?

I certainly will be happy to report back if I go and get a print.

Hmmm...

Checking their catalog, here:
http://ondemandbooks.com/publisher_program.php

Note that they have three categories: publishers with less than 100 books (US), publishers with less than 100 books (non-US), and publishers with more than 100 books.

I checked all 3 categories and didn't find my CS books. However, I also didn't find my books that have been making sales through them, so I assume they just don't keep their catalog up to date. I guess the point-of-sale places have a more complete catalog than their website (which is odd).

They appear to have my IngramSpark books listed, but not the single title that is CreateSpace only. So there's one data point for CS not including Espresso access.
