Re: [KDP proof] 'Not for Resale' banner

It happens on mine to be about the same colour palette as the cover, but I imagine on others it'll throw off the eye when trying to judge colours. I used to complain regularly, Carthago Delenda Est style, to Createspace about printing proofs and author copies in a different continent. Maybe this is ...

[KDP proof] 'Not for Resale' banner

I've just got my first proof back from KDP and there's a 'Not for Resale' banner across the cover. A little lower and it would have obscured an issue with the cover. Seems utterly unhelpful just to stop the scam of selling a book at cost.

Anyone else got an opinion?

David, will think about that when ready, however I might find deciding on a suitable series title harder work than writing a book.
Cheers. Ed
I can understand that ;-)

It has a detective, so it's The [insert detective name here] series.

Re: [Createspace to KDP] Changing title

[...] it is a series by anything but name. I haven't yet worked out the advantages,if any,of calling a set of books a "series" It's a series then. More people buy books if they are in a series, so I suggest that you name your series and edit the book information appropriately. For me, I think I mig...

[Createspace to KDP] Changing title

It appears that the time has come to jump ship from Createspace to KDP. I'm rather dreading it. Does this give us the possibility to change the title of our books? And, first, should I? I've two series. The steampunk one goes: The Derring-Do Club and the Empire of the Dead , The Derring-Do Club and ...

I have done so, but have not heard anything back yet.
It might be because they've forgotten you.

Re: [CREATSPACE] PNG to PDF cover

ok, they edited the cover pdf for the correct sizing and accepted the cover. So I guess we're good to go now. Proof is on it's way. Thanks all for your help. I never like that, because you don't know what they've done and thus you'll make the same mistake next time. I prefer to have the control her...

Re: [CREATSPACE] PNG to PDF cover

What are you using to generate the PNG? If you are using a template, then you must be using some software to do this.

I use CutePDF writer, free, to generate PDFs from Word, maybe you can use that from whatever you are using. To software programs, it acts like a printer.

Re: [EDITING] A question about italics

I think it should be katana and wakizashi, lower case, no italics, because that's how the point of view characters would think of the words. I do use capitals for the Book of Prophesy and the Art of Writing, so it makes sense to reduce the Number of Capitals. I do like the James Clavell Shogun idea ...

Re: [EDITING] A question about italics

To my mind gelati , gelato , pecorino and cannoli , and I'd even suggest making a case for pizza and spaghetti . Clearly, like all typographical elements, you need a rule and you need to stick to it consistently. I'd probably go for a 'sound' rule, if I feel tempted to use a 'funny' accent, then it'...
