[Satisfaction Guarantee] for KDP Print?

Post by danwiz » Sun Nov 18, 2018 7:03 pm

Is there any kind of guarantee for KDP Print? If so, I cannot find it. I am asking because over the years I have had to complain about several problems with CreateSpace printing - pages falling out of the book the first time I opened the cover, some pages bound upside down, pages from other books inserted in my books, and so on. So, what happens if I order 20 author copies from KDP print and receive defective copies? Who do I send a complaint to, will they respond, replace the book, tell me to go fly a kite, or just totally ignore me? Does anybody know yet?

CS was always very quick to respond and send replacement copies.

Like you Dan'l, I was unable to find any satisfaction guarantee listed anywhere. I will say, though, that there is a contact us button on the KDP site and every time I have contacted them over something, they have responded within 24 hours like they say they will.

Okay, I guess it's good to at least know that much. I hope that I have no need to contact them about any problems! :D Thank you, Joe.

I thought that you had transferred your catalogue to IS? I am about to publish my first book with them.

My hardcovers are all with IS, but for my paperbacks I used the free CS ISBN for all of them, which means I cannot do something as simple as just transfer them.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. Should have forked out for my own ISBNs at the beginning. You at least have the option of remaining with KDP for your paperbacks. As KDP do not ship to Oz, I have no options but to transfer my catalogue to IS. If I cannot purchase author copies at a discounted rate, I may as well not have paperbacks at all. Most of my PB sales come locally.
At least I don't have over forty books like you do Dan'l.

I have to amend this post/reply. I have just found out that Amazon have done a backflip on restricting Australian purchases from the American store. Hopefully it means things will change at KDP in that regard. Not yet though:(

FYI, I also initially used CS's free ISBNs. When they started acting wonky I bought a block from Bowker and (bleh) redid all the covers and title pages with the new ISBNs.

I must say that I've been very pleased with IS, both in quality, speed, and significantly higher royalties (The Espresso sales were a nice surprise, too). I have more than made up for the ISBN expense in extra royalties, and it has only been a few months. I'm glad I had CS to practice on and made a nice income for years without having to shell out money.

My one concern with IS was that I heard that Amazon sometimes marks them as "Ships in 1-2 months", but so far that hasn't happened to any of mine. They all are shown as in-stock.

I have a 2019 calendar through IS which shows that it ships in 1 - 2 months on Amazon. That frosts my ass. Who is going to buy a 2019 calendar that they won't receive until after January 1, nobody! My IS home page shows that I have sold 9 of them, so I can only hope that the calendar page will soon show something more like "only 7 in stock, order soon".

I'd really like to know the criteria for how they decide which ones have that delay.

Also, who decides, IS or Amazon? Is it because your calendar is in color?

Who knows.

It's likely an automatic algorithm rather than a person.

It's an Amazon thing, not IS. It's Amazon's site; all happenings there are their responsibility.
