[Createspace to KDP] Changing title

Post by David Wake » Fri Sep 21, 2018 2:17 am

It appears that the time has come to jump ship from Createspace to KDP. I'm rather dreading it.

Does this give us the possibility to change the title of our books? And, first, should I?

I've two series.

The steampunk one goes: The Derring-Do Club and the Empire of the Dead, The Derring-Do Club and the Year of the Chrononauts and The Derring-Do Club and the Invasion of the Grey. Those seem long and wordy - do you agree? With the next, I'm wondering about just having Death on the Suez, but can I, in moving them to KDP, quietly drop the series name from the titles for the first three as well? The three have Createspace ISBNs.

The SF series, which was never meant to be a series, has one book, Createspace ISBN, and it's called #tag - madness to start a title with a character. The sequel is, sort of, @code, but maybe I ought to call them Hashtag and Atcode. Again, opinions, please. And it's another, can I change the title. The sub-title of the first is 'Hashtag', so it's just flipping them around.

We start these things off, don't we, with no real idea of where we are going.

I have the opposite situation David. My first fiction book was a follow on from my family history books. One of the ancestors committed suicide so I thought I would write a fictional account of why he had done so. It gradually developed or perhaps morphed into a detective story. It worked out quite well although some of my family readers disapproved of the ending. So the fiction writing bug took hold and I used the character of my fictional detective,a youngish of in Victorian south London and wrote a second book, but did not list it as part of a series. Now of course I am working on book three, same copper,a bit older and now plain clothes, si it is a series by anything but name. I haven't yet worked out the advantages,if any,of calling a set of books a "series"

Cheers. Ed

You cannot change the title of a published book. You'd have to republish it as a new book, with a new ISBN.

Adam 41: This is your ONLY post, you have no posts to change the title on! I strongly suspect that this is spam, so watch your step or you'll be banned - we do not mess around here with suspect spam!

It's a series then.

More people buy books if they are in a series, so I suggest that you name your series and edit the book information appropriately.

For me, I think I might go the new book title and ISBN. (Although it'll cause confusion with there being a #tag and a Hashtag.

David, will think about that when ready, however I might find deciding on a suitable series title harder work than writing a book.

I can understand that ;-)

It has a detective, so it's The [insert detective name here] series.
