[AMAZON ORDER] Has Amazon ever given you such poor service?

Post by danwiz » Sun Oct 08, 2017 10:49 am

I just posted this question over there on CS, but it's already off the bottom of Page 1 due to the deluge of SPAM. WOW!

I ordered 4 copies of my Ingram Spark publication on September 24th. The product page said that there were 4 copies in stock and more on the way. I tried to order 5 copies and they told me that I could only order 4 copies. I am a prime member so shipping is free. Today is October 8th. The books still have not shipped, and in fact, my order page shows that the order has been split into 2 orders - 1 of which says 1 copy is preparing for shipment and the other order (the remaining 3 books ) only states "not yet shipped".

Is Amazon really and truly penalizing folks who order our IS publications in this way?! This seems totally ridiculous and says "very poor service". It would discourage people from ordering books that say they are from IS. I am very upset with this practice.

I saw your post in the CS forum but I don't have a relevant experience to report. I have noticed that Amazon often misses the target for Prime delivery of manufactured-on-demand products, including movie DVDs, but usually only by a day. I tried ordering one of your hardcover editions and the estimated delivery would have been October 12.

The spam in the CS forums is mind-boggling. I can't see why they are worth anyone's time to wallpaper in the first place, as there's not very much traffic. I can't think of any other free site that receives as much spam.

Yeah, not sure I can answer that either Dan'l, never having ordered a product produced by Ingram. They may well be dragging the chain for any product that isn't KDP or Createspace, thereby encouraging folks to swap? Poor business practices if you are going to offer products from competitors. As for the spam on CS, I hate it so much that I am rarely there anymore. Can't find the new posts. Sorry about your experience, I hope it resolves itself soon for you.
Joe.

It's nothing to do with IS or CS -- Amazon put caps on customer orders, probably to stop people trying to game the system and reach bestseller status.

I'm not sure why the order has been split or why it's taking so long. You'll have to ask Amazon that question.

At this point, it's getting past ridiculous. Today is October 11th. I placed the order on September 24th. Amazon is still showing it as split into 2 orders with 1 book STILL showing as "preparing for shipment" and the 2nd order of 3 books still showing as "not yet shipped".

Does anybody else order their own IS books from Amazon? I mean, if I was a normal customer I would probably make a note to myself to never order another book which was printed by IS from Amazon.

Is this Amazon saying "oh, it's IS books, make shipping as slow as possible so that next time they'll order CS books." or is it just bad luck on my part?

Okay, to go back to the beginning - recall that I placed the order for 4 copies of one of my IS books on September 24th and that I am a Prime member. Today is October 21st and the shipment has finally been made, supposedly, it should arrive at my post office on October 25th. This is what can happen when people order our IS titles from Amazon. Damn, who would want to purchase one of our IS books from Amazon a second time, if this kind of stuff happened to them the first time.

Oh, and by the way, the order was split into two shipments, one shipment of one copy and the second shipment of 3 copies, but both of them shipped on the same day. Don't you love Amazon.

By the way, I did contact Amazon about this and they DID attempt to make it right, by giving me a $10 off coupon on my next purchase.

Wow, how generous of them...not! I get better service from them when I order a book to be delivered to Australia. I think the longest I have waited was about ten days. I don't believe I have ever ordered a book printed by Spark though, at least, not that I was aware of. How many of your titles are with Spark Dan'l ?

G'Day Joe, I have virtually all of my titles with Ingram, but only the hardcover editions. Virtually all of my paperbacks are with CS only.

HOWEVER, My wall hanging calendars for the past couple of years have been available only through IS due to the fact that I can get saddle-stitching from IS, while CS does not offer that option. I discovered a few years ago, that for wall calendars, where one is taking it off the wall at the end of every month, turning a page, flattening it out and then rehanging it back on the wall, the glued CS editions tended to start falling apart if one was not extremely careful. See http://amzn.to/2zsU3lo for all of them.
