[Createspace] About to publish questions.

Post by mstary1 » Sat Mar 17, 2018 4:30 am

Hello everyone.
If I could ask for some guidance here, that would be great. My first novel at 54k words is awaiting file review on
Createspace, should be in a few hours for it to be approved. I already had a proof copy arrive and found a couple of mistakes, which I
corrected. So ready to go when file is approved. The mistakes were silly, 2 indent and a rogue page break.

I'm using my own ISBN's from Thorpe-Bowker and I've decided to go with standard distribution only at this stage. Is this the way to go as I wish to publish on other platforms and was told not to go Extended Distribution if I want to go with Ingram-Spark, smashwords etc due to lower royalties.
Also, I understand that going with Kindle Direct Publishing will enable a print to order and e-book formats to be available on Amazon. Is this right?
What I'm also not sure about is all the exclusive talk about only being allowed to publish with Amazon if you choose KDP select. i have no idea what that's about.

I guess i just want to make the right choice here. Publish on Amazon but also have all my options on the table without being tied into one platform or company. Cheers everyone, appreciate you time.
Mark.

Yes. If you enable EDC through CreateSpace they'll include that ISBN in the Ingram catalogue, which means if you tried to use the ISBN with a different printer in the future (for example, IngramSpark), they'd find the ISBN already in the catalogue and they'd reject it. So if you intend to use another printer in the future, do not enable any EDC.

If you select the Amazon channels in your CS Dashboard, the paperback will appear on Amazon. You do not need to also have the paperback with KDP Print (and it would be a bad idea to try to use both). You do need KDP for the ebook version, however, as CS doesn't handle ebooks.
What I'm also not sure about is all the exclusive talk about only being allowed to publish with Amazon if you choose KDP select.
Kindle Select only applies to ebooks. If you enroll your ebook in Kindle Select, you may not offer it anywhere else outside of Amazon for the period that it's in Select (90 days at a time, with automatic re-enrollment unless you uncheck the box).

Thanks for the help Seisa.

I have enable standard distribution only and will look to KDP for the E-book only.
You've been a great help.
Cheers.
