[INTRODUCTION] Hi! I'm a self-publishing author

Post by DebbieBarry » Wed Aug 30, 2017 9:27 am

INTRODUCTION

I'm a legally-blind author, and the author and illustrator of books for young learners. I use low-resolution, high-contrast computer hardware and software to lt me write, edit, format, and publish, and sometimes to do preschool illustations. I do most of my illustrations the old fashioned way, with Crayola markers on paper, using bold lines, simple shapes, and minimal details.

I'm marries, and have two teenage sons, although they are living with their father and younger siblings for now. We have two cats. Before losing my sight, I taught English composition and English as a second language. My family is involved in historical reenactment, focusing on the 14th Century and the 18th Century. I have lots of varied interests.

I'm looking forward to connecting with other authors and self-publishers. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Hello Debbie, welcome to the forum. You have a tough gig there, but you seem to be coping well with your lot in life. Not sure I would be quite as courageous about losing my sight. My hat is off to you and I wish you every success in your endeavours. Not sure what could be suggested to you without a specific question being asked. Obviously editing of your work is essential and foremost, followed closely by more editing and proofreading, after which, you might concentrate on editing for a change. Then comes the truly hard work of marketing and self promotion! Whew! And if you make it through all that, you must concern yourself with all the money that comes rolling in. :) Just kidding of course, only a few very talented authors have boatloads of cash coming in. Even then, talented or not, few get the rewards they truly deserve from all their efforts.
Come back in the other section if you have any questions or PM me if you want to ask anything more privately.
Cheers,
Joe.
