[CS] Author passes away

Post by GoMePub2 » Sun Nov 12, 2017 12:54 pm

I asked this question on the CreateSpace community but thought I'd ask it here as well.

What happens to our books and royalties when we pass away?
I'm Canadian, we are NOT paid direct deposit, thus no bank account.
We are paid by cheque in $100 US increments.
Very curious to know the answer to this one.

As I posted on this thread in the CS forum, that's a question for your estate planner or the attorney handling your will. Such information should be detailed there.

We should all add things to our wills to cover this, including passwords, I wonder. Or, like Kafka, demand it's all burnt.

@David Wake. Yes, I have to agree with you that usernames and passwords are something that MUST be made a part of wills and so on, or at the very least, stored in a file which a spouse knows about.

That's my current plan (already in place), in the absence of a will.

Having just marked another birthday . . . note, the word "celebrate" was not used . . . I think this to be a mildly inappropriate thread.

I am, of course being facetious, however, I had to be reminded that it was my birthday, which this thread did also.

Happy Birthday, Walton. I hit my 70th in August, what did you hit today? Does your significant other have your password list? Mine does.

1948 . . . So 69. I'm not sure I like the word "hit" either! When asked, how old, I usually ask my wife. My working assumption is that there really is only one important date in the future, and we'll get there when we get there. Until then, I don't need to be reminded. Sort of like in the theater, don't break the fourth wall.

I keep a printed, 3-page list of passwords on my desk. My wife knows it's there, but then I work on the depth-to-the-surface system of desk organization. Knowing that it's there is not the same thing is actually seeing it.

I'm coming up to a big one: I can retire!!! However, I need to sell a lot more books before that technicality can be enacted upon.

And at the risk of being more of a downer, passwords, etc, ought to be held somewhere else as well. Your spouse may have it, but if both of you are travelling together...
