I didn't mean to offend anyone. Sorry, if I triggered someone.
A friend recently passed away very suddenly. He had no will, leaving his family to scramble what bits of information they could find. He did all the "finances" (and badly) so they are having to start from scratch and deal with the mess left behind.
This made me look at my own situation, which brought up this question.
But I'm glad to know others were looking for the answers as well.
No one likes to think about these things but the reality is, none of us will escape death.
But what we leave behind makes a difference to those that love us and are grieving.
Again thanks to all who helped.

We don't have wills (we should...), but I do have a document that details what accounts I have for our personal finances and for my business, where to find those files, where to find log-in information, etc. It basically details what he'd need to know if anything happened to me in order to take over all our personal accounts, notify any current clients, and figure out what to do with my business accounts and publishing.

But there was a good point about "what if you're traveling together?" I guess I really should sort it out beyond just my husband.

That's really a very good point about "what if we're traveling together?" I had kind of not thought of that at all. Thank you. I now need to think about it, especially seeing as we are often in the mountains together and could both end up falling from a cliff, being attacked and killed by a bear, just plain get lost and freeze to death, be struck by lightning, etc. The mountains, especially mountains of Alaska, are quite unforgiving of people who make a mistake.

Some people in this thread seem like they just plain do not want to think about their own mortality, but as Sarah said, NONE of us are going to leave this place alive; it makes sense for even a 30-year-old to have a will and a plan.

Wow, David, you sure know how to throw a wet blanket over things, don't you? Sheesh! LOL Kidding aside, it is pretty good advice. I have yet to do so and am ashamed that I haven't.
Have a safe day,
Joe.

It wasn't my intention. I'm as bad as anyone. I know there's something I need to change in my Will, but I've been putting it off as if, somehow, karma, will protect me until that's done:-

"Yes, Death," says the Guardian Angel, "David can come and play, when he's finished his paperwork."
"BUT-"
"No 'but's."

Writers, all of us, are trying to create a work that makes us immortal, so this is all against the grain.

One thing to add to the mix here.

You might need to specify what you want to happen with your creations: do you want someone else to carry on the series? Do you want to specify that if the screen rights are sold, a certain scene must be included? Such-and-such a character must never use violence, go to New York, eat cheese, or whatever.
