[CAUTION!!] Virus found in a post

A word of warning to everybody. I clicked on a link in a post to check to see if it was porn, illegal content or just plain old spam. (It was porn and I deleted it AND BANNED the user and his/her IP address.) My mistake. Next boot-up of computer proved fatal - nothing worked - couldn't even use the keyboard (Windows 7 Professional). I am fortunate because I have OS backups, so I changed my boot drive and copied a backup of my OS to the Root Drive and now, 45 minutes later, I am back in business. If you do not have an OS backup this would have been rather a disaster.

I don't know what the virus was or anything about it, but McAfee did not catch it before it did its damage. I suspect that it was something designed to release its nastiness upon next cold boot before the virus checker was activated.

Thank you for the warning.

I have Shadow Defender, https://www.shadowdefender.com/ it is a colossal pain in the butt unless you work out a strategy for how to live in harmony with it. When it is invoked, all drives or folders that are protected run as virtual devices, in essence they are sandboxed. I have read this is not 100% fool proof, but it certainly adds way more protection to what most us have. The downside and the strategy, you cannot save files to protected areas, because they disappear when you reboot the system. So you have to either have an unprotected device permanently installed and now you are at some risk, or you must add a device to save a something, then remove it for protection. As near as I can tell, it works!

It costs $35.

I use AVAST(free) almost exclusively and it picks up damn near anything and everything. Dan'l, one way to know whether it is a porn post or not, is that they invariably have a digit behind the user name, especially # 69. You do not have to follow the link to know. I seldom click on a link anymore because AVAST has warned me off many times.
I have never seen porn spam on CS, they must have a particular porn filter. Is there any such animal in this software, or available for this software Walton?
Cheers,
Joe.

Dan, So sorry that happened to you.
And thank you very much for removing the spammer, protecting us all from that virus.
This seems to be a problem everywhere we go these days and It's good to know the moderator on here have our backs.
Thanks again!!

Thank you very much, Dan, for telling us! I also have Avast Free, that is the best one we ever had.

Never ever click the links in a suspicious post. Moderators should be more savvy than this and know how to identify spam just by looking at it.
