Re: [CREATESPACE] Margin Error upon Submission of Interior

Just to add a titch to Sarah's answer: CS tends to write in an aberrant form of Lower Babylonian cuneiform. That 0.375" is one of their more "intelligible" formulations. Aside from its derivation from the combination of out-of-live margin (0.25") and the bleed margin (0.125"). the live element in th...

Re: [CreateSpace] Digital Viewer + Chrome

You both probably know this, but for anyone else: despite your settings, updates, etc., sometimes one browser will one day and not the next. Some browsers work better than other. CS says Firefox is the "best" browser, and that has been my go-to browser. But for the past few months, I have not been a...

Re: [CREATESPACE] draft book (24 pages)

I have done several books with pages and pages of lorem ipsum/placeholder text. I am not, however, recommending it simply because if CS blocks the project it adds days to the question. You could simple grab text from a public domain book (Project Gutenberg) or use your own text. Unless you approve t...

Re: [Cover] Opinions

If I saw the front cover, I would pick the book up. That's a big plus. But I would also turn the book over and look at the back cover . . . and there you've lost me. Unless thumbing through the book something caught my eye, I'd probably put it down. The same thing holds in the digital bookstore. I a...

Re: [LCCN CIP] Cataloging and identification of books

Thank you for all the info. I noticed on the CS forum you posted that the ISBN manual and standard have been updated.

My thanks for sharing!

Re: [CREATESPACE] NEWBIE question re CS and book pictures

Keep in mind that all of us were newbies at one time! Printing, commercial graphics, p-o-d, etc., are not necessarily easy. Don't hesitate to ask questions as you go. I for one, learn something every time I answer most questions.

Re: [CREATESPACE] NEWBIE question re CS and book pictures

Here's a suggestion: do a test book. Up to 108 pages is the same price as 24 pages, for B&W. CS has a hard time with placeholder text, but you could download a Project Guttenberg book to get text. Make a book about the size you want, say 6 x 9. Drop in the text, rougly format it. Add pictures. Have ...

Re: [CREATESPACE] NEWBIE question re CS and book pictures]

CS cannot do what you want. To my knowledge none of the regular p-o-d printer can (spark, lulu, etc). BookSurge, Createspace's progenitor, did off that for a while, but they discontinued after about six months. Check out 360 Digital Books , they are now part of Whitlock. They may still offer to tip ...

Re: [FORMATTING] What's your go to program?

I use InDesign whenever possible, but half of the books I do for clients, I use Word. It is possible to design good looking books in Word . A downside to Word is that it handles hyphenation globally, and it takes more time to adjust text to look good. Also, Word files tend to corrupt more easily tha...

Re: [EBOOK] formatting

One thing that often gets overlooked: test your e-book in as many real devices as you can. Kindle for PC, for example, is quick and easy, and I assume it will only get me 90% of the way there. Just to make up numbers, Calibre will get you 95% of the way. You still need to use a real device, and seve...
